Tong Eng Group traces its origins to the 1940s when Teo Thye Chor and his younger brother migrated from Hui An, Fujian, China to Singapore. They formed “Tong Eng Brothers” after World War II, initially trading electrolytic tinplates. Recognizing the post-war rebuilding demand, they diversified into property development in the 1950s.

1950
Official incorporation period. Teo Thye Chor identified the potential of the undeveloped Paya Lebar district, acquiring land to develop the first industrial estate.
1968 – 2010s
Teo Tong Wah took over leadership, prioritizing expanding its land bank. Notable acquisition of shophouses adjacent to Cecil Street, developed into the iconic Tong Eng Building.
Today: 2026
